Boo To Taboo

..& We're still embarrassed to talk about It.
It ??
*No Not the movie*
PERIODS.
A year ago i made This picture
(the one above) as part of India's Global Citizen initiative.
My Only purpose was..
To CATCH HOLD of FREE TICKETS to COLDPLAY concert happening in Mumbai.
This was JUST ONE of the many tasks we as "Citizens of the world" we're asked to DO in order to Earn Points every week which would increase our chances of Getting FREE Tickets to the event.
..I GOT MY TICKETS.
Little did i realize That THIS Particular picture when uploaded on my social media had instigated a considerable amount of discussion among my own friends and families.
Likes, Reacts and even encouraging comments began flowing inn.
I'd thought the taboo for Periods existed Only in the minds of rural Indians..
- I WAS WRONG.
People were LIKING it because as per them putting such a picture was a BRAVE Thing to Do.
A Challenge of sorts.
That's when it hit me - Periods Are considered taboo
Not only in rural areas But all around
- even in developed cities.
We As humans We eat, we breathe, we excrete
-we need good food for good health, clean air to breathe & we excrete what is unneeded - as waste..
Nothing among These Are a Taboo to the society as They Are
The PRIME functions of the body..
Right?
Eat? - Oh That's fine..
Breathe?.. It's Necessary man.
Excretion?.. Taboo??
Hell NO !
(Have You Gone to The Beach?? or The railway tracks??
EARLY in the morning ??
HAVE You??)
*Open defecation*
*You know what i'm talking about*
Then come Periods.
Which is Nothing but excretion of unnecessary blood from a woman's vagina.
How can This be a Taboo?
IT KEEPS THE BODY CLEAN, Relieved and Functional.. Just like Our everyday excretion.
Which is a Good Thing.
Whereas Not being able to excrete is a much Scary thing - in both cases.
Oh Well, that depends on the situation in terms of Periods :)
The point being, If Periods Are a part of Excretion,
Why be so hush hush about them?
They're Natural !
..& So is maintaining Menstrual hygiene By means of Using Proper Sanitary Pads.
Why be ashamed about it?
Sorry, i mean..
What's There to be ashamed about?
NOTHING.
Sanitary Pads are just like Our Daily toiletries.
We Never HIDE our Soaps, our Toothpastes, our Shampoos & conditioners.. They why Pads??
We Openly boast & talk about our skin health, beauty products, hair sprays, perfumes, lotions etc..
Then Why Not openly talk about Menstrual hygiene & periods??
Plus Why are they termed - "Woman's Problem" ?
LOL. They're Not a Problem.
They're the SOLUTION to Problems.
Not having periods or Irregular periods can be a Real Problem.
The more openly we talk about Periods,
more the people we educate..
& especially more women feel less ashamed about it.
Well, Although The Topic of SHAME Does NOT End here..
Let's Bring Out
The "MENS PART" of This issue.
If Periods & Sanitary Pads Are a "Shameful" topic for women..
it's CONDOMS for men.
Yes. Condoms.
The "Thing" asked at a chemist shop in a MUTE tone.
Or in sign language..
*The Sign: A big "C" with your thumb & index finger*
*Sigh*
Oh & if You say it loud..
Expect a few questionable stares..
Or even smirks maybe.
Again, What's the shame about?
When you buy a condom ;
You're Not only Preventing unwanted pregnancies But
Most importantly protecting yourself from direct infections & several diseases.
- & By doing THIS you're Saving Not only yourself but also your partners health from transferring bodily infections to or from him/her.
Let's face it.
Population is anyways a Major issue of our nation among which most youths fall prey to unwanted pregnancies & infections Only because They were FEELING SHY to Buy Condoms.
Seriously?!?!
I Don't Believe in Contraceptive pills.
Eventually They End up doing more harm to the body than good..
&That's definitely NOT the price you would want to pay - a price where Safe Health is at Risk.
NOPE.
As soon as we Buy a New Computer, a New phone or even a New house for that matter..
Isn't the 1st and the foremost thing we Do is PROTECT it ?
Antivirus to protect Our Computers from data thefts & internet viruses, Protection apps, Screen guards & mobile covers to keep our phones safe, Disinfectants to keep our homes free from bugs, insects, rodents etc.
Then Why be ashamed to Protect our own bodies from infections or Prevent their spread ?
Why risk unwanted pregnancies?
Why leave Things to chance ?
..Especially when You Have The Choice to control them.
PROTECTION against ills
- It's a good thing right ??
Well, That's exactly what a Condom does..
What's the shame about ?
Why be ashamed to ASK for it ? carry it ?
Using a Condom or Not,
Can Be a choice..
But Buying a Condom or Not Should NEVER Be one.
So Next Time.
BE PROUD & FEEL HAPPY when you see or Hear someone buying a Condom.
It's because He or She TRULY CARES, Not for ONE But TWO Health's.
Yes, that’s a Pad & a Condom in my hand & there's nothing to be ashamed about.
Periods are Natural !
Protection is Necessary !
